THE RETALIATORS has some fun revenge-thriller aspects, but it never fully comes together. Thought A CHRISTMAS STORY CHRISTMAS would be awful, so the fact that it’s average is a big win. Very similar feel to the original, and has some genuinely fun moments. BLACK ADAM (review) took Dwayne Johnson, one of the most naturally charismatic people on the planet, and stripped his character of all charisma. That’s just the beginning of the problems. MY POLICEMAN is far from great, but it has its share of tender moments. And it might prove Harry Styles is at least a serviceable actor. MOONFALL! It’s a Roland Emmerich disaster movie, so you know what you’re in for. And if that’s your thing, it’s a blast. A messy blast, to be sure, but still a blast (review).

Brendan Fraser is undeniably fantastic in THE WHALE, but one great performance does not a great movie make. Emotionally manipulative in an ineffective way, it’s beyond heavy-handed. MARRY ME (review) is fun enough, and Jennifer Lopez’s star-power is on full display. But it takes the easy way out at every chance to do something unique with the story and characters. SOMETHING AT TIFFANY’S (review) has a promising setup, but then does absolutely nothing with it. Zoey Deutch is great as always, though. I hated (HATED) TRIANGLE OF SADNESS. One of my least favorite movies from the year. Thinks it’s way smarter than it is, and isn’t funny enough to make up for it. The Binge is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. But the sequel, IT’S A WONDERFUL BINGE, somehow isn’t awful. It’s a Christmas miracle.

THE SILENT TWINS is a more interesting true story than it is a movie. How do you have a cat-and-mouse spy thriller with Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton and come out with something as boring as ALL THE OLD KNIVES? The stars’ chemistry, though, keeps it from being a worse disaster. I CAME BY went a little too hard into the social commentary, but had a few solid, unexpected surprises. ERASER: REBORN is an incredibly forgettable action thriller, though it isn’t awful in the moment. One of the most unintentionally hilarious endings I’ve ever seen. I wasn’t as down on AMSTERDAM as many, but given the cast and story, it was still a big disappointment.

The main kid in ARMAGEDDON TIME is one of the most insufferable characters from any movie I saw last year. I might have been more open to the movie if not for this. STUDIO 666 should not have been as boring as it was. A fun set up and some good performances (from mostly non-actors) were squandered. LAST SEEN ALIVE is a Gerard Butler action thriller, so you’re at least going to have fun. JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION was maybe the stupidest movie from last year. Moving the focus away from dino destruction? Not great, Bob! LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE thinks it has some great insight into PTSD and processing grief and trauma and rage. But…it doesn’t.
